The other method is to breathe in moisture particles directly. While heavier water droplets fall to the ground, lighter particles can remain free-floating in the air. If a person breathes in these particles, this results in the same infection as if a person touched an infected object then touched their eyes, nose, or mouth and transferred the virus internally.

This means that any environment can potentially house the COVID-19 contagion as well as other more conventional threats, such as mold spores. For areas where someone that may have been infected has spent some time, this means any object that’s been touched or interacted with, from bed sheets to television remote controls, may still carry the virus.
The virus can remain viable for transmission for hours or even days after an infected person has interacted with the environment. Unfortunately, due to the virus’s airborne nature, this also means that even being in a different room from an infected person may not prevent infection if a standard HVAC ventilation system is used.
